Off The Grid w/ Ian and Micah: Smart music that flies under the radar.

Off The Grid May 6, 13, and 20

Sorry for being gone so long.  There are a few excuses for my lack of blog entries:

1.  I did a huge awesome blog entry for May 6 and my stupid computer froze up and I lost it and I didn't have the energy to redo it all.

2.  I've been on vacation camping in backwoods Tennessee where they are still just learning about dial up and I didn't have cell reception.

3.  Ian is the only one who does these blog entries and Micah is a lazy bum.  Just kidding Micah...sort of.

So here are the last three weeks setlists for those of you who missed them.  If you want to be cool you should go and download all of these songs.  Just make yourself a long OTG playlist and play these songs at parties.  Your friends will think you are the hippest kid around.

A few highlights to check out:

Andrew Combs new album titled Big Bad Love is coming out very soon.  We played the title track off that record this week and will be featuring another single from that record next week.

J. D. McPherson's new debut LP is titled Signs and Signifiers.  If you like classic R and B/Rock and Roll this is for you.  At least download the single that we played this week North Side Gal.

2.  RSD 2012

I've talked with several fellow new music junkies and it sounds like this was a pretty good year for Record Store Day.  A lot of cool releases only available and our favorite local brick and mortar establishments.

I only was able to snag three for myself.

They include:

Otis Redding and Aretha Franklin - Side By Side - Respect

Jay Farrar, Will Johnson, Anders Parker, and Yim Yames - Let's Multipy

Sara Watkins and The Everly Brothers - Side By Side - You're The One I Love

What did you grab from Record Store Day?  Let us know!

Off The Grid!!

Hello Off The Grid Listeners!

This is Ian checking in for the first time on our cool new blog.

Hopefully this becomes a cool place for you to check out all things Off The Grid and share some sweet music and other random awesomeness.

M. Ward - Primitive Girl
M. Ward - Sweetheart (Featuring Zooey Deschanel)
Beck - Ghettochip Malfunction (Hell Yes)
Todd Snider - In Between Jobs
Tom Williams and The Boat - Teenage Blood
Neal Casal - Need Shelter
Calexico and Iron and Wine - He Lays In Reins
Rocky Votolato - Little Spring
The Messengers - That's The Way A Woman Is
Glen Hansard - Love Don't Leave Me Waiting

We sort of threw this show together with the idea of promoting the new Todd Snider record.  It just so happened both Micah and myself picked out two different tracks off M. Ward's new record A Wasteland Companion.  So the show became more of a conversation of M. Ward's ever expanding catalog.

Of course we also featured the aforementioned Todd Snider with the great tune "In Between Jobs."  We had to play a highly edited version of this song.  The non edited (read explicit) version is definitely worth checking out.

Other highlights include the virtually unknown anti-folk (what?!) band Tom Williams and The Boat and a super fast blast from the past by The Messengers.  For those of you keeping score "That's The Way A Woman Is" clocks in under two minutes!

Check out this article.

It is written by the incomparable Chuck Klosterman and attempts to deconstruct the general hatred of these two insanely popular rock bands.  Their popularity is quite literally insane, right?
