The latest on SOHO is this: The organizers are securing their new location on Adams between 6th and 7th street in downtown Springfield and Mayor Mike Houston says that he does not have a personal vendetta against the charity music festival. From our news department, who spoke with Mayor Houston this morning:
"[Mayor Mike Houston] insists he does not have it in for the popular festival that draws thousands of people downtown each year. Houston says he welcomes events that draw happy crowds into the heart of the city… and says it was just a snafu that left this year’s event in doubt. Houston says all of the details have been finalized for SOHO to proceed June 7th and 8th on Adams, between 6th and 7th Streets."
That's promising. There was also some talk during Tuesday's City Council meeting that the bank building on the north side of the Old State Capitol is having some work done to the facade and there are gates up around the building--something that could cause some safety concerns. I remember those fences were put up last year and thinking "this is just in the way." So, maybe it will be best to have the festival just down the street.
Organizer Eric Welch told the city council Tuesday that he'd be find, in the future, to move the date. But it's just a matter of ensuring that the city doesn't double book the space again.
Either way, SOHO and the civil war reenactors will live in peace and harmony.

Meanwhile, there's been a bizarre twist in the recent UFO sighting here in the patch. Read the initial blog here.
Yesterday afternoon there were some responses to the blog post on Facebook. Facebook just so happened to be where the initial report of an unidentified flying object was made.
On a post from our sister station, somebody had posted that the incident was "an elaborate plan" put on by the band The Timmys, who are popular among a certain crowd across central Illinois.
Well, that of course got me to not only head to The Timmys Facebook Page and like 'em, but it also got me to take a look at their upcoming tour dates. So, there ya go ... even if the UFO sighting wasn't an elaborate plan from The Timmys to drum up interest, them merely saying that got me interested! I knew the photos were a bit fishy!
Very clever marketing strategy, guys!!!
