It's finally Friday! What a week it's been filling in for Joy. I want to thank everyone for tuning in and hanging out with some great music.
Tonight's Joy of Music, brought to you by The Legacy Theater, features a group we haven't heard new stuff from in quite some time. The British band has been on a hiatus for years. Their last release was way back in 2003 with Think Tank. Now they've got a couple of new songs they made free to download online and they also offered up a 7'' vinyl of Under the Westway.
For tonight we'll hear the tune "Puritan." Listen to that tune with the lyric video below or follow this link.
I first heard Blur way back in 1994 with their tune "Girls and Boys" from the album Parklife. Still to this day, I can listen to that tune over-and-over again! Now, with "Puritan," I've got another tune I can listen to over-and-over again. If you're not familiar with Blur's front man Daren Alburn, he's quite the busy chap. While Blur was on a nearly ten year hiatus, Alburn worked as one of the voices on Gorilaz and, though I've never seen Blur live, I have seen Alburn on stage with Massive Attack. That was an awesome show. Alburn came out late in the set and, man ... did he look like he was having a great time! Good stuff!
In other music news
Information is coming out about late Beastie Boys founder Adam Yauch’s will. He’s refusing to be a corporate shill even after his death! The will filed in a Manhattan court Tuesday says that his image, music and any art he created cannot be used in commercial advertisements. MCA also left his wife and 13-year-old daughter in charge of his $6.4 million estate and his wife will now manage the rights to all of his creations. Yauch passed away May 4th after a long bout with cancer. In related news, the Beastie Boys are suing Monster Energy for using their music and name in online advertisements earlier this year.
Also, remember Scott Johnson, the Radiohead drum tech that lost his life after the stage collapse in Toronto? Well, his family has set up a fund in his name to help with music programs for children. If you've got a few dollars to spare, be sure to donate to ScottJohnsonBursary.com.
Time for something different
It's finally Friday and a recent post on AnimalsBeingDicks.com expresses exactly how I feel.
