Then join the Springfield YMCA for the "Prom It Forward" event on Saturday, March 23 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Every girl dreams of the perfect prom. This free pre-prom event will include door prizes, health and beauty inspiration, picture perfect tips, prom vendors and a collection of gently used gowns to choose from. |

Capital City Men's Chorus |

The Capital City Men’s Chorus (TCCMC), directed by Mary E. Myers, is conducting a membership drive for the 2013 spring season.
The Capital City Men’s Chorus is open to any male with a musical interest that is 18 years of age or older. Membership in the TCCMC is open to any musically qualified male who enjoys singing and is willing to give of their time and talents necessary to make each concert a source of pride for all members.
The Capital City Men’s Chorus holds rehearsals every Sunday evening from 5:30 p.m. – 7 p.m. at the Laurel United Methodist Church (corner of Walnut and South Grand, third floor choir room) Springfield, Ill.

The Springfield Park District will be offering after school lap swim hours beginning March 1 at Eisenhower Pool (2351 E. Cornell St.).

Monday - Friday 7 – 9 a.m., 11 a.m. – 1 p.m./ Monday, Wednesday and Friday 3:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m./ Monday and Wednesday 8:30 p.m. – 9:45 p.m. / Sunday 9:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
Family Swim Hours: Friday 7 – 9 p.m./ Sunday 2 – 4 p.m.

Bike and Hike Days |

The Springfield Park District is once again hosting the always popular Bike and Hike Days at Washington Park. This program is designed to foster biking, hiking, walking and running within the park. Please note the park will be barricaded to prevent vehicular traffic. Bike and hike days will take place every Sunday through Sept.

Annual Pancake and Sausage Breakfas |
|
Everyone is invited to partake as The Lincoln Memorial Gardens and Nature Center hosts their annual Pancake and Sausage Breakfast in the Nature Center. The event also features a Silent Auction fundraiser stocked with treasures and services donated by individuals and area businesses.
The breakfast will be held two consecutive weekends in March, the 16th-17th and the 23rd-24th. Breakfast will be served on those Saturdays and Sundays from 8 a.m. to Noon. The auction offerings will be on display in the Nature Center throughout.
Reservations are necessary for this popular breakfast to avoid the possibility of being turned away. Cost is $8 for adults and $5 for children under 12. Please make reservations by calling 217-529-1111.

APL Pet Adoptions |
|
lThe Animal Protective League (APL) will hold several pet adoptions during March with cats and dogs available at various locations. All animals presented by APL for adoption have been spayed or neutered, micro-chipped and have received all vaccinations.
Adoptions will be held Saturday, March 16 – dogs and cats from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Green Hyundai, 1200 South Dirksen Parkway, Springfield and Sunday, March 17 –cats from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at PetSmart
Additionally kittens are available every day during regular business hours at Gizzy Lu.
APL, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to assisting ill, injured and abandoned homeless animals, runs an animal shelter which is open every day from noon to 5 p.m. for adoptions. APL also coordinates cruelty investigations and humane education programs. APL also operates a low cost spay/neuter clinic adjacent to its Springfield shelter.

Mar 17 Finer Womanhood Dinner Theater |

The Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. Kappa Sigma Zeta Chapter will hold its annual Finer Womanhood Dinner Theater on Sunday, March 17, 2013, at the Northfield Inn and Conference Center, located at 3280 Northfield Drive. This event features Monique Whittington of Chicago, Ill., presenting her signature dramatic ministry piece, "The Bag Lady." Whittington is an anointed woman of God, a gifted psalmist, vocalist, actress and playwright. In December 2007, she was a featured vocalist on tour for the annual Gospel Music Festival in Rome, Italy. Tickets are $35 in advance and $40 at the door.
